Site Redesign
After being under development for way too long (I was still living in California when I started it), welcome to the newest version of my site, gkoberger.net! It comes with new branding, layout, and content.
The Branding
Every company needs a good, recognizable logo. It's the first thing people see, and often times the last thing they remember. The same doesn't go for people- we don't need logos, and a majority of personal logos are rather forgettable. No matter how well designed they are, we simply don't associate humans with logos like we do for companies, especially when we can associate them with faces.
That being said, I figured I needed something to tie together my website, site's I've made, resumes, business cards, and anything else I'd put my name on. The website's theme is somewhat grungy, which doesn't work for printed resumes or business cards.
The Layout
For the site, I went with a somewhat grungy look. It's not usually my style, however I ended up there after a few hours playing around in Photoshop. The next iteration of the design will probably be much more minimalistic, but for now I like this.
It's far from done yet- the "About Me" section is way too bland for my tastes, and I feel the whole site could benefit from a little more JavaScript (in a subtle, user friendly way of course!)
The Content
The main page is set up a bit like a blog, however I don't plan on really blogging in the traditional sense. Rather than writing, I plan on just posting projects I'm working on or have finished. I figure I don't really have much important to say that hasn't already been said a thousands times before, a thousand times better.
That doesn't mean you're completely in the clear when it comes to my opinions. There's going to be a little section on the main page, with enough room for a paragraph or two of whatever happens to be on my mind. Think of it as a compromise between blogging and Twitter. I haven't decided yet if there's going to be an archive or not (if not, I'd have to come up with a regular posting schedule)- we'll see how it goes.
Your Comments?
I'd love to hear what you think! I don't have comments enabled yet, so in the mean time just email me.
